Alex Johnson ran the fastest 100 meters of his life on Saturday, and it wasn’t even his best finish of the day.

At the Class 5 District 6 meet in Nixa, Johnson ran a personal-best 10.81 seconds in the 100 to take second place, then turned around and won the 200-meter district title in 22.09. It was another strong showing in an event he’s owned all spring — Johnson set the school record in the 200 at the Republic Relays in April, running a 21.5. He also anchored the 4×100 relay with Jacob Duran, Gavin Lawhon, and Treyton Gray to a third-place qualifying finish. Johnson was the only Republic athlete to earn a trip to sectionals in three events on Saturday.

The junior heads to Waynesville for sectionals as one of 14 Tigers who punched their ticket at districts, and it was our Performance of the Week.
