Joplin’s Brecken Green threw a seven-inning no-hitter Tuesday, striking out 12 as the Eagles beat Republic 6-0 in Joplin.
Cooper Thomas went the distance for Republic, throwing six innings and allowing six runs — none of them earned — in what could have been a pitcher’s duel. Five Tiger errors accounted for all the damage. Joplin scored twice in the second on a stolen base and throwing error that turned a strikeout into a run, then broke the game open with a four-run third on two more Republic miscues.
Green needed 91 pitches to retire Republic, facing just 23 batters. He didn’t walk a batter.
Thomas walked two and struck out three.
