It was another big weekend for Republic’s girls swim team. The Lady Tigers turned in the best performance in program history at the SWMO Championships on Saturday, finishing second out of 21 teams with 337 points. Only Glendale, at 399, finished ahead of Republic.
The Lady Tigers also honored senior Lilly Worthy as part of the Senior Day festivities. And the day was partly dedicated to honoring coach Steve Boyce, who coaches multiple programs in southwest Missouri, is a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and is planning to retire at the end of this season.
The Lady Tigers claimed first place in both freestyle relays. The 200 freestyle relay team of Annalice Renegar, Elise Replogle, Zaylie Pinnell and Ava Brown won in 1:46.80, and the 400 freestyle relay of Brown, Replogle, Pinnell and Renegar took first in 3:54.27.
Brown led all Republic scorers with 45 points across her individual and relay events. She placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.63) and third in the 100 freestyle (56.95). Replogle was right behind her with 44 points, finishing third in both the 100 butterfly (1:03.50) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.07).
Pinnell added 41 points with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.69) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (58.14). Renegar scored 32 points, placing seventh in both the 200 freestyle (2:13.13) and the 500 freestyle (6:01.00).
Amelia Beaver contributed 25 points, including a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:07.85). Sara Chism and Mei Pruett rounded out the scoring with 10 and 12 points, respectively.
The second-place finish in a 21-team field marks the highest the program has placed at the SWMO meet.
