Republic scored as many points in the first quarter as Waynesville scored all night, jumped out to a 29-8 lead after one quarter and coasting to a 62-29 victory over Waynesville on Friday night. The Lady Tigers used a balanced offensive attack and a near-perfect performance from the free-throw line to move their record to 7-3 on the season.
The outcome was decided early as Republic’s offense ignited for 29 points in the opening eight minutes. Awbree Berning sparked the early surge, scoring eight of her team-high 13 points in the first quarter. Paelyn Gilmore and Charlie Hagewood also found their rhythm early, combining for 12 points in the period to help Republic build a 21-point cushion.
Republic’s defense held Waynesville to single digits in every quarter. After leading 43-16 at halftime, the Lady Tigers continued to pull away in the third, limiting Waynesville to just five points while extending the lead to 33.
Berning led all scorers with 13 points, followed closely by Gilmore with 12.
The Lady Tigers’ precision at the line was a key factor in the blowout, as they converted 12 of 13 free-throw attempts. Berning led that effort, finishing a perfect 6-for-6 from the stripe.
Waynesville was led by Riley Grosvenor, who finished with 10 points.
Republic (7-2) will look to carry the momentum into next week, then the Lady Tigers travel to Ozark on Monday. They’ll host Nixa later in the week.
