Republic’s two state qualifiers finished their season with two matches Thursday morning at the Class 3 state tennis tournament in Springfield. Mati Carpenter and Aubree Tinsley lost their two matches to two teams from Missouri’s big metro areas.
Republic opened the morning against Mary and Emmy Sublette, sisters representing Lafayette (Wildwood). After winning the opening game, Tinsley and Carpenter couldn’t hold off charge by Wildwood, eventually dropping the match 6-2 6-0.
The second match, against Sofia Shkuta and Anya Stanojevic of Barstow High School in Kansas City. The Barstow pair won that match 6-1 6-0.
The two doubles matches ended a successful season for Republic tennis, which finished with a 14-5 record in dual play this season. It also marked the last match for Carpenter, a senior. Tinsley, a junior, can return for another season next fall.
