Republic pulled out a hard-fought road win at Kickapoo, defeating the Lady Chiefs in five sets: 26–24, 7–25, 25–23, 18–25, 15–12. It’s Republic’s third straight victory and its second in a row over Kickapoo after breaking a 15-match losing streak against the Lady Chiefs in last year’s district tournament.
Kate Mitchell led the Tigers with 10 kills and three blocks. Reese Finley added 21 digs, two service aces, and a team-high 21 assists. Audrey Pearce also finished with two aces.
Coach Allison Davis said her team’s focus and fight made the difference after a rough second set.
“Honestly, the second set our serve receive killed us. That and our own hitting errors,” Davis said. “We talked about re-setting after that game. We obviously knew we were capable of better.
After that re-set, the Lady Tigers played better in the third set.
“We had a ton of long rallies—some we won, some we lost—but they fought through mentally and for that I’m proud. We could’ve quit so many times but they gave it everything. This was a big district win for us.”
Republic improved to 12–10–1 and will host Carthage on Thursday night.
