Performance of the Week – Keiran Govan

Keiran Govan was in control of the state sectional triple jump competition from the start, on his way to a convincing victory.

Govan’s first jump was 13.65 meters, the highest of the eight competitors during that round. He jumped 13.64 meters on his second attempt, briefly surpassed by Antwon Givens of Lebanon, who hit 13.72.

By the third attempt, though, Govan had retaken the lead, and he had overtaken the Republic school record with a leap of 13.84 meters. And when his final leap went for 14.08 meters, Govan had broken Sean Brewer’s 1991 mark twice in a row, and he had outdistanced the nearest competition by more than a foot.

Govan’s worst jump would have been good enough for fifth place, and his dominant performance in the triple jump is our Performance of the Week.
