Springfield Catholic erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run fourth inning, taking the lead for good in an 8-2 victory over Republic in the regular season finale Thursday. The Irish tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning to secure the win.
Republic scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Zayden Danielson scored on Jackson Overstreet’s single to center field, then Cannon Ellison came home on Isaac White’s groundout to third base.
Catholic responded immediately in the top of the fourth with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Irish then added four more runs in the sixth inning to reach the final margin.
Brennan Overstreet took the loss for Republic despite not allowing an earned run through four innings. The Tigers committed two errors that led to the Irish runs.
Republic managed just four hits – a double by Danielson and singles from Jackson Overstreet, White, and Cooper Thomas.
Nate Lask led the Catholic offense with four hits and two RBIs.
The loss leaves Republic with a 15-15 record heading into district play. Springfield Catholic improved to 18-10.
