Rock Bridge Hands Republic Baseball Its First Loss

Republic managed just three hits in a 13-3 loss to Rock Bridge Saturday. The Bruins used a big seven-run third inning to break open the game and secure the win in five innings.

Rock Bridge took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout. The Bruins extended their lead to 5-0 with four runs in the second, capped by a three-run homer from William Kimes.

The Tigers rallied in the top of the third. Nolan Coble and Mason Fleetwood walked before Ryder Davis doubled to drive them both home. Jackson Overstreet followed with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

Rock Bridge answered immediately with seven runs in the bottom of the third. The Bruins capitalized on walks, timely hits and Republic errors to put the game out of reach. They added a final run in the fifth to close out the scoring.

Kimes led Rock Bridge, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Asher Schulze and Dylan Davis each collected two hits for the Bruins.

Davis was Republic’s offensive standout, collecting two hits and driving in two runs. Overstreet added the Tigers’ only other hit.

Kyler Tate took the loss for Republic, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) in 2⅓ innings. Ryder Smith pitched the final 2⅓ innings, giving up one run.

Kimes earned the win, while Thomas Dickinson closed out the game with two perfect innings of relief, striking out four.

Earlier in the day, Republic had beaten Rolla 6-5. They finished the day with a split of their doubleheader and a 3-1 record overall. The Tigers are back in action with a game at home against Rogersville next week.
