Overstreet Tosses Complete-Game Shutout to Lead Tigers in First Varsity Start

Brennan Overstreet pitched a complete-game shutout in his first varsity start, leading Republic to a 3-0 victory over Warrensburg Saturday at Carthage.

Overstreet scattered eight hits over seven innings, striking out six without walking a batter. He worked through several jams, including a seventh-inning threat when Warrensburg put runners at second and third with two outs. Overstreet induced a groundout to second baseman Cooper Pilkinton to preserve the shutout.

Republic scored all three runs in the third inning. After loading the bases with one out, Jackson Overstreet was hit by a pitch to force in Nolan Coble. Isaac White was also hit by a pitch, bringing home Mason Fleetwood. Preston McCracken followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Cannon Ellison.

Warrensburg threatened in the fourth inning when a double and a walk put runners at second and third with two outs. But Overstreet struck out Haden Gilpin to end the inning.

Preston McCracken went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead Republic’s offense. The Tigers managed just four hits but took advantage of four walks, two hit batters, and an error.

Charles Morgan led Warrensburg with three hits, including a seventh-inning double that put the tying run at the plate, but Overstreet closed the door.

The win was Republic’s second of the day, following a 10-5 victory over Winnetonka, and improved the Tigers’ record to 7-2. The Tigers will host Ozark on April 1.
