Overcast lost a narrow 4-3 decision to Caden Harrington of Ozark, while Hicks fell to Willard’s Porter Talbot in the championship match.

Keaton Overcast’s impressive season record heading into the state tournament. The 138-pounder dominated his way to the district finals with a major decision in the first round, a pin in the quarterfinals, and another major decision in the semifinals before falling just short in the championship match. His consistency throughout the season makes him one of Republic’s top contenders for a state medal.

The combined pin time for Chase Hicks’ two falls at the district tournament. The 215-pound standout needed just 1:39 to pin Lee’s Summit’s Zander McGuire in the quarterfinals and 4:38 to defeat Neosho’s Dayton Kivett in the semifinals. Hicks’ explosive style and 33-6 season record make him another strong state medal contender for the Tigers.

Kameron Sutton’s place finish at 165 pounds, securing the third state qualification for Republic. Sutton (30-14) put together an impressive tournament run that included a technical fall in the opening round and a pin in the quarterfinals. After falling in the semifinals, he bounced back with another pin in the consolation semifinals to secure his state berth.

Republic’s team score at the district tournament, good for 5th place overall in the 15-team field. The Tigers finished just half a point ahead of Lebanon (91.0) in a tight battle for position. Republic’s performance included multiple trips to the semifinals and 12 total pins throughout the weekend. It’s Republic’s highest district finish since moving to Class 4.
