Republic wrestlers earned seven medals at two Columbia tournaments Saturday, where Chase Hicks picked up his 100th career pin in boys competition.
The Republic girls finished eighth out of 19 teams at the Kewpie Invitational with 267.5 points. Northwest Cedar Hill won with 458 points. In the Hickman Wrestling Invitational boys division, Republic placed seventh with 178 points in a tournament won by host Hickman with 379 points.
Gabby Shanks (135) led Republic’s girls with a second-place finish. After a first-round bye, she won twice by fall before losing to Zafaran Satterfield of Southern Boone in the championship match.
Millie Waterman (120) and Rachel Clark (115) each earned fifth place. Millie Waterman went 3-1 with three pins, including a fall in 4:29 in the fifth-place match. Clark, after a first-round bye, lost by tech fall before winning her next two matches, including an 8-1 decision for fifth place.
Bre-Elle Gutierrez (110) and Abby Horn (130) finished sixth. Dorothy Waterman (100) placed fourth.
In boys competition, Keaton Overcast (138) and Chase Hicks (215) each finished second. Overcast won his first five contested matches, including three by fall and one by tech fall, before losing in sudden victory in the championship match against Chad Benwell of Holt, 3-0. Hicks won four matches by fall before losing a 7-1 decision to Roman Janek of Edwardsville in the title match.
Tanner Gonzalez (190) placed fourth. Cameron Allen (175) Cooper White (190), Jaxston Feuerborn (285), and Corbin Massey (120) finished sixth. Shelby Horton (126) and Kameron Sutton (165) placed seventh.
The Tigers’ total of 178 points placed them just behind Rolla (178.5) and ahead of Waynesville (133).
