Republic placed nine volleyball players on the Academic All-State team for the 2024 season, continuing the program’s run of classroom success.
The team posted a 4.07 GPA during the fall semester. Players earning Academic All-State recognition from the Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association were Bria Claxton, Kaylee Cornelsen, Reese Frey, Nevaeh Ghan, Reese Finley, Hailey Fuentes, Adison Gibbs, Katelyn Mitchell, and Rylee Vent.
The 2024 selections are the second-most in program history, trailing only last year’s 10 honorees. Players qualify for Academic All-State recognition by maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 while playing in 75% or more of their team’s sets during the season.
“Participating in 2-3 games a week along with practices, it’s tough to maintain good grades and compete at the level we play at,” said coach Allison Davis. “I think it speaks volumes to an athlete’s ability to demonstrate a strong work ethic, time management skills and the commitment they make in balancing multiple responsibilities, which we hope will only help them succeed in their future. Earning academic all-state is such a positive representation of the individual player, their family, our team and our school.”
Republic has had at least seven Academic All-State selections every year since 2019. The Lady Tigers had seven in 2019, eight in 2020, seven in 2021, seven in 2022, and 10 in 2023.
