The Repmo Grind was on full display in the Kansas City area Friday night, and Blue Valley West got chewed up in the gears.
Republic outscored Blue Valley West 15-5 in a decisive second quarter and pulled away for a 50-38 road win in Overland Park to remain unbeaten. The Tigers’ defensive identity – which Tim Brown has dubbed the REPMO Grind for its hard-nosed, scrappy style – helped hold the Jaguars to their lowest scoring output of the season.
Brenley Hagewood scored 26 points to lead all scorers. Davin Parks added 14 for Republic, which improved to 6-0.
Blue Valley West (2-3) led 14-13 after the first quarter, but Republic’s defense took control in the second period. The Tigers led 28-19 at halftime.
The Jaguars cut the lead to eight points by the end of the third quarter, but Republic opened the fourth with an 11-4 run to put the game away.
“Tonight, we had to hit the road and face a very physical, athletic, and disciplined team,” Brown said. “We knew it was going to come down to toughness and execution, and I thought our guys excelled in both areas. On both ends of the floor, we stayed connected, focused on the next play, and never let up. I’m proud of how our team responded to the challenge.”
Tyler Peterson led Blue Valley West with eight points.
