Republic’s early-season scoring struggles continued Saturday in a 63-36 loss to Strafford at the Stephanie Phillips Classic at Kickapoo High School. The Lady Tigers (0-4) trailed 5-3 at the midway point of the first quarter, but Strafford scored 12 consecutive points to take control.
By the end of the first quarter, the Indians had pushed their lead to 21-7. It was 34-15 at halftime, thanks to a 7-0 run by Strafford in the middle of the second quarter. Hopes of a Republic comeback were dashed by another run of ten straight points to open the second half, and Strafford never looked back.
Lanney Strong had 12 points to lead Republic. Kinley Larson scored 28 for Strafford, and Elsie Larsen added 17.
