Boys, Girls Wrestling Teams See Highlights in First Tourney

Republic opened its wrestling season with a seventh-place finish at the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational, scoring 109.5 points in the 24-team field. Columbia Hickman won the tournament with 215 points.

Keaton Overcast led Republic with a second-place finish at 138 pounds. He won three straight matches before falling to Noah Lohrmann of Warrensburg in the championship match.

Chase Hicks (215) took third, bouncing back from his only loss – a semifinal setback against Willard’s Porter Talbot. Izaiah Hull (190) finished fourth.

Two Tigers earned fifth-place finishes: Daniel Gonzales (144) and Kameron Sutton (165). Corbin Massey (120) and Jaxston Feuerborn (285) each placed sixth.

Shea Rogers (150) and Cam Allen (175) contributed points toward Republic’s team total, while five other Republic wrestlers competed but did not place.

Hickman outdistanced host Fort Zumwalt North by 27 points for the team title. Willard finished third with 184.5 points.

On Friday, Republic’s girls wrestling team finished eighth in a 21-team field at the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational, scoring 76 points. Francis Howell Central won the tournament with 216 points.

Millie Waterman (120) led Republic with a 4-1 record, scoring 17 team points. After an opening-round fall against Riley Hofeditz of Hickman, Waterman rebounded from a quarterfinal loss to win three straight matches, including a rematch with Hofeditz in the fifth-place bout.

Aara Shade (145) took fifth, winning three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket after an opening-round setback. Bre-Elle Gutierrez (110) and Dorothy Waterman (105) earned fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively.

Rachel Clark (115) placed sixth, winning two matches by fall in the consolation bracket. Tera Vesco (125), Anna McBroom (130), Abby Horn (135), and Gabby Shanks (140) also competed for Republic.
