Republic Wins 4 of 5 at Springfield Invitational

Republic softball reeled off four straight wins to start the Springfield Invitational, before losing their final game of the weekend to Kickapoo. The Lady Tigers finish the weekend with an 18-9 record.

Republic 7, Columbia Battle 0

Kara Goeke pitched a six-inning shutout and Paige Elsenraat had two base hits in the tournament opener Friday. Addison Walker doubled and reached base twice, scoring two runs and driving in another.

Republic 7, Hillcrest 0

Piper Dishman struck out ten in a five-inning no-hitter to lead Republic to a 7-0 win over Hillcrest. Dishman also went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Lady Tigers. Lilli Richerson and Cass Ellison each contributed two base hits.

Republic 14, Rolla 3

Republic banged out 14 base hits on the way to a 14-3 win over Rolla. Madi Taylor went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored in a rare start. Walker drove in three runs and scored three. She had two base hits, and so did Dishman, Annabelle Gerhardt-Hobbs, and Addie Brown. Dishman picked up the win, striking out seven in four innings of work. She allowed three runs (one earned).

Republic 1, Webb City 0

After going six years without a win over Webb City, the Lady Tigers have done it twice this season, after a 1-0 win Saturday. Kara Goeke pitched a gem, striking out seven batters in a five-inning complete-game one-hitter. Walker scored the only run of the game in the top of the first inning. Lilli Richerson had two base hits for the Lady Tigers.

Kickapoo 10, Republic 1

An eight-run inning doomed the Lady Tigers in a 10-1 loss to Kickapoo to wrap up the weekend. Kickapoo scored two runs in the third inning, then put the game away with eight more in the fourth. Only two of Kickapoo’s runs were earned, as Goeke took the loss. Republic managed two base hits — doubles by Ellison and Brown.
