Republic Volleyball’s mid-season skid continued on the road Tuesday at Lebanon. The Yellow Jackets outlasted Republic 25-17, 22-25, 25-10, 20-25, 17-15.
Lebanon took control early, jumping out to an 11-3 lead on the way to a first-set win, 25-17. Republic turned the tables in the second set, taking an 8-1 lead, then fighting off Lebanon to hold on for a 25-22 win, evening the match at one set apiece.
The third set saw Lebanon dominate, winning 25-10. Republic responded by taking the fourth set 25-20, forcing a decisive fifth set. In the final frame, Republic trailed 13-10, then faced a match point at 14-12, but scored twice in a row to tie the score. After the teams traded points, Lebanon won two in a row for a 17-15 victory.
Reese Finley led Republic’s offense with 22 kills. Finley and Kate Mitchell each contributed three blocks. Kaylee Cornelsen anchored the defense with 25 digs. Bria Claxton served 2 aces for the Lady Tigers.
Reese Frey directed the attack with 49 assists.
Lebanon improves to 11-3. For Republic it was a sixth consecutive loss after the Lady Tigers dropped five in a row at the Rockwood Invitational over the weekend. Republic will look to rebound Thursday at home against Springfield Central.
