Republic’s volleyball team defeated Springfield Central 24-26, 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers led early in the first set before Central rallied to take it. Republic then controlled the next three sets to secure the victory.
Reese Finley paced Republic’s offense with 19 kills. Bria Claxton led the defense with 17 digs and added five service aces. Reese Frey dished out 52 assists, while Adison Gibbs contributed three blocks.
Coach Allison Davis highlighted her team’s flexibility throughout the match.
“I think what I liked about tonight was the fact that we were able to move a lot of girls around. We made adjustments all night long,” Davis said. “We started with one rotation. (In the) second set, we did a completely different rotation, and then third set, fourth set, we were throwing different people in in the middle of the game, and they were doing really well. So we may be young, but the fact that we have so many possibilities is what excites me, and that’s what I loved about tonight’s game.”
The junior varsity team won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-22. The freshman squad also swept their match, 25-8, 25-17.
The victory snapped a six-match losing streak for Republic, improving their record to 8-9 on the season. The Lady Tigers will compete in the Springfield Classic this weekend.
