The Republic soccer team made the most of its opportunity in a road match at Camdenton Tuesday. The Tigers took seven shots all night, and the only shot on goal made its way past the Laker goalie to deliver a 1-0 win.
The only score of the night came with 27:43 remaining in the first half. Elijah Phiri stepped in front of a clearing pass to deflect it, and the ball bounded to Diego Zuniga. Zuniga dribbled to the left top corner of the box, then worked his way across until he found an opening, firing the ball into the net.
That was enough to earn the victory, thanks to a strong effort by the defense, and by goalkeeper Koal Williams in particular. Williams set the tone for the night early, when he dove to his left to make a save on a Camdenton free kick from just outside the goal box. He finished the night with 12 saves, earning his third shutout of the season. Maddox Aldridge also registered three blocks as a standout on defense.
The win ends a two-match losing streak for Republic and improves their season record to 4-2.
The Tigers will compete in the Parkview Tournament beginning Thursday with a match against Northwest Cedar Hill.
