Near-Perfect Day for Repmo Volleyball Ends with 2nd-Place Finish

The Republic volleyball team finished second in the Gold Bracket at the Branson Invitational Saturday, racking up a 5-1 record for the day.

The Lady Tigers swept through pool play, winning two sets each against Forsyth, Strafford, and Mt. Vernon. In bracket play, Republic defeated Kearney 25-22, 25-21, then topped Springfield Catholic in the semifinals 25-21, 25-16.

Republic faced Fair Grove in the championship match, falling 17-25, 17-25.

“We got tired in the end, unfortunately. We started strong in the first set, leading 7-2, but we couldn’t hold on,” said coach Allison Davis.

Despite the loss in the finals, Davis is upbeat about the Lady Tigers’ performance.

“We played so well all day long, but we just lost steam,” she said. “Overall our defense and team chemistry is clicking, and things are slowly coming together offensively. I love the energy this team brings every day, and today was no different.”

Republic will be back in Branson on September 3 for a regular-season match.
