The Republic Lady Tigers secured their seventh consecutive win Saturday afternoon, defeating the Capital City Cavaliers 7-4 at home. The victory improved Republic’s record to 11-4, while Capital City fell to 6-7.
Republic’s seven-game winning streak is the second-longest in program history, just two shy of the record of nine. The Lady Tigers have been on a scoring tear, netting 21 goals in their last three matches.
Adison Gibbs opened the scoring off an assist from Cadence Lugar at the 37:50 mark. Just 22 seconds later, Gibbs set up Molly Blades, who shot past a diving goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Capital City responded with a goal at 23:38 and a penalty kick at 18:07 to tie the game at 2-2. However, Republic regained the lead at 11:41 when Lugar scored from 25 yards out, the ball slipping through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Kendra Phiri played a long ball to Blades, who chipped the goalkeeper at 5:28. Mati Carpenter followed up to ensure the ball crossed the line, extending Republic’s lead to 4-2.
Three minutes later, Capital City saved a penalty kick by Blades. Awbree Berning made a save on a Capital City free kick in the final 30 seconds of the half to maintain the 4-2 lead at the break.
Blades scored her second goal at 32:14 off an assist from Ava Brown, and Claire Redman added another just 16 seconds later from a tight angle, making it 6-2.
Capital City pulled within two with goals at 25:34 and 23:57, but Callie Jaquess sealed the win for Republic, scoring off a corner kick by Blades that was initially deflected by Bria Claxton.
