Republic’s Redman Leads Charge in Webb City Rout

The Lady Tigers soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over Webb City in a Central Ozark Conference (COC) matchup on the road Thursday. Claire Redman scored twice, while Molly Blades and Cadence Lugar added a goal apiece.

Redman opened the scoring with an assist from Mati Carpenter in the first half, and Blades doubled the lead with an unassisted goal shortly after. In the second half, Redman scored again, this time assisted by Adison Gibbs, before Lugar capped off the scoring with help from Bria Claxton.

Coach Jesus Zuniga praised his players’ trust in each other and their ability to adapt to new roles. “It’s nice knowing we can plug several different people in different places and still be able to accept the challenge,” said Zuniga. He said his players are “starting to focus on the little things and attempting to perfect those to make them habits. We played Awbree (Berning) multiple times to the back and were able to distribute through her feet and play smart soccer.”

That’s three straight wins for the Lady Tigers, who are 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the COC.

“We’ve had a grueling last few weeks, and to be able to plug new pieces in and place different pieces in new spots and still claim a clean sheet speaks volumes of this group,” Zuniga said. ” [It’s a] very special group. Selfless win tonight.”

Republic’s next win will match its win total for all of 2023, when the Lady Tigers finished 8-13. Republic can pick up win number eight for this season against Harrison, Ark., tomorrow afternoon at Kickapoo. The game will begin at 2 pm.
