Republic shut out Lebanon 3-0 in a Saturday morning matchup at Glendale High School, improving to 5-4 on the season.
Mati Carpenter opened the scoring for Republic with 28:11 left in the first half, deflecting a pass from Cadence Lugar past Lebanon goalkeeper Kameron Compton.
Despite several diving saves by Compton, Republic struck again in the final minute of the half. Ava Brown’s free kick into the middle was touched by Kaylee Cornelsen before ricocheting to Adison Gibbs, who popped the ball into the upper left corner with 55 seconds remaining. Republic nearly scored a third goal in the first half as time expired. Molly Blades got a good look at the goal, but with a defender nearby, she fired her shot just wide, right of the post.
In the second half, Gibbs scored her second goal of the game after Callie Jaquess crossed the ball in from the left wing. Compton mishandled the ball, and Gibbs tapped it into the net.
Republic’s midfield and back line kept the ball out of dangerous areas, leaving goalkeeper Awbree Berning with little to do throughout the match.
The win came after two 1-0 losses earlier in the week at the Southwest Shootout, where Republic finished with a 1-2 record but a positive goal differential, scoring three goals and conceding two.
