The Tigers were 6-6 a week ago. Now they’re 11-6 and have a tournament championship under their belts.
Republic opened the week with a road win at Kickapoo, then traveled to mid-Missouri to compete in the Smith-Cotton Tournament. The Tigers won four straight to capture the title. They opened with a 7-2 win against Russellville, with Ryder Davis striking out ten batters in a complete-game performance. In the next game, the Tigers scored five runs in the fifth inning to get past Columbia Battle, 7-3.
Republic needed a solid pitching performance to get past the host team, Sedalia Smith-Cotton, in the next game, 2-1. They got that pitching performance from Trace Harrington and Cannon Ellison, who combined to allow one run on four base hits.
In the championship game Saturday night, Devon Hughes was the hero at the plate. He scored four runs and drove in four, as Republic topped Nevada 13-3 in six innings.
Republic’s five-win week on the diamond is our Performance of the Week!
