Learning and Fun the Goals for Mooneyham’s Youth Basketball Camps

The annual Republic Lady Tiger Basketball Elementary Camp is back with a fresh twist, as new head coach Tori Mooneyham aims to create a fun and engaging experience for young players. The camp will be the first public event organized by Mooneyham since being named head coach, and she’s excited to make it even more of an annual tradition that young players look forward to. Mooneyham said the camp provides an opportunity to meet some of the girls who will be part of the program’s future.

The two-day camp, scheduled for May 7-8 at Republic High School gym, is open to girls currently in grades 3-6. Participants will receive instruction from Mooneyham and her staff, as well as current Lady Tiger players.

“It’s a chance for our new coaching staff to get the opportunity to work with our future Lady Tigers,” Mooneyham said. “It’s an opportunity to work on the basic skills for the kids who are your future. You get to know them, so when they come to you when they’re older, you already have a relationship with them.”

Mooneyham emphasized the importance of building those relationships with young players, hoping to create a sense of community within the program. “For those who come every year, it gives you insight. Then, when you have them in high school, you remember them,” she said.

The camp will focus on teaching fundamental basketball skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, and proper defense. Mooneyham also wants to ensure that the experience is enjoyable for the participants. “I want to teach them but also make it fun for them,” she said.

The cost of the camp is $30, which includes a t-shirt for those who register by April 28. More details can be found and registration can be completed online via the Google Form found here. Payment options include online payment at this link or cash/check on the first day of the camp.

Young will also get an opportunity to meet and interact with many of the Lady Tigers during the camp. The camp is set to take place at the Republic High School gym on May 7-8. The deadline for registration to ensure a t-shirt is April 28.
