The Republic girls track team demolished the field with 97 points at the Southwest Baptist University Invitational in Bolivar on Tuesday. The second-place team, Kickapoo, had 65 points. The boys team finished eighth overall, with 41 points.
Jenna Belcher set a new school record in the triple jump, leaping 11.54 meters. She had set the record last year with a triple jump distance of 11.48m.
Gracie Troester set a new meet record in the 1600m run, with a time of 5:08.39. It was one of three gold medals she earned. Troester’s time in the 1600m run was about four seconds off her previous best time.
Zion Allen was a double-winner in the long jump and high jump. He set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 6′ 6 3/4″, edging closer to the school record set by Garrett Metscher in winning the state championship in 2013.
Kristin Probst also picked up a win in the 800m run. She finished in 2:20.83.
Two Republic girls relay teams also won: the 4x400m team of Alaina Norman, Rilynn Finley, Kristin Probst, and Gracie Woods turned in a time of 4:08.10. The 4x800m team of Woods, Probst, Troester, and Reese Finley won with a time of 9:49.38.
