Easy, Ryder: Davis Piles up 10 Strikeouts in Win

Republic baseball team wasted no time in asserting their dominance on the diamond, as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in their 7-2 triumph over Russellville on Wednesday evening.

The scoring opened in the bottom of the first inning when Devon Hughes singled with one out and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Jackson Overstreet. A balk allowed Overstreet to cross the plate, and an error allowed Wyatt Woods to score, making it 3-0. Cooper Pilkinton capped off the inning with an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0.

Republic’s bats stayed hot in the second inning, adding three more runs. Garrett Lester scored on an RBI single by Hughes, and Overstreet drove in both Hughes and Trace Harrington, pushing the score to 7-0.

Russellville managed to scratch across single runs in the fifth and sixth innings off Republic starter Ryder Davis, but it was too little, too late. Davis tossed a complete game and allowed just one earned run on seven hits while striking out ten and walking only one. His performance earned him the win, improving Republic’s record to 8-6 on the season. Republic has won two straight.

The Tigers will play Columbia Battle on Friday.
