Tigers Heat Up to Beat Skiatook as Temps Take a Dive

Dropping temperatures during Friday’s game didn’t cool off the Tigers, who cruised to an 8-2 win over Skiatook, Oklahoma, at home.

Ryder Davis got the win for the Tigers, giving up three hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings. He struck out four and walked one. Kody Gibson started for Skiatook and suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs over three innings. Ethan Anderson pitched two innings of relief for Republic, surrendering two hits and two unearned runs while striking out three and walking two.

The Tigers scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to RBI singles by Trace Harrington and Wyatt Woods. They added one more run in the second, when Garrett Lester drove home Nolan Coble with a groundout. Coble had singled to lead off the inning.

Skiatook scored its only two runs in the top of the third inning to make the score 3-2, but Republic promptly got the runs back in the bottom of the inning, thanks to an RBI double by Brett Hendrickson and an RBI single by Cooper Pilkinton. It was Pilkinton’s first career varsity hit, and it made the score 5-2.

The Tigers rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs. Devon Hughes singled home a run and Jackson Overstreet followed that up with an RBI double.

Overstreet finished with two hits and two runs batted in. Lester had one base hit to go with three walks, two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.

The Tigers had nine total hits in the game.

Republic improves to 4-3.
