Republic Girls End Wrestling Season at Districts

A season of progress for the Lady Tigers’ wrestling team ended at the district tournament Saturday at Belton. For the second year in a row, a Republic wrestler came within a match of qualifying for state, but fell short.

Millie Waterman lost her first match of the tournament, then rebounded with two straight wins to make the so-called bubble round, with the winner going to state. But Lebanon’s Lillian Cottongim pinned Waterman to advance in that match.

Waterman was the only Republic wrestler to advance as far as the consolation semifinals.

The boys district tournament will be held February 16-17 at Raymore-Peculiar High School.
