Off the Field: Top Spot for Marksmanship Team in International Competition

The Republic High School Air Force JROTC Marksmanship Team clinched first place in the Air Force Postal Competition, outperforming 98 teams. The competition included dozens of schools, including some Department of Defense schools overseas. Their victory secures a position at February’s national competition in Camp Perry, Ohio.

Junior Daniella Ornelas-Ramirez led the team, securing the top individual spot among 459 competitors. Her performance, along with teammates Celeste Barber, Gracie Trantham, Molly Mason, and Mailie Stinson, helped Republic edge out Reagan High School (North Carolina) 1,050-1,047.

Ornelas-Ramirez, introduced to marksmanship by her sister, a former team member, finds motivation in the sport’s challenges. She most enjoys “the thrill it gives me to try to succeed and accomplish as much as possible.”

Discussing the team’s success, Ornelas-Ramirez credits their collective effort and motivation. “Not only do we push each other to do our best, but we also inspire each other to stay motivated and thrive,” she said.

Focused on the upcoming national competition, Ornelas aims high. She’s aiming to help the team finish first overall, and she also has her eye on a top-10 individual finish.
