Tennis Team Whips 2nd-seeded Lebanon, Advances to District Championship

The Lady Tigers tennis team will play for a district championship Wednesday, after knocking off #2 seed Lebanon 5-1 in the district semifinals. Republic is seeded third.

The Lady Tigers won two of three doubles matches. Mari Davidson and Monica Henry teamed for a win, and so did Ella Lashley and Katie Teeter.

In singles play, Republic won three matches without a loss to clinch the team victory. Elli Woodward and Teeter each won handily, and Mari Davidson gutted out a close win to finish the night. “Mari was just so tough,” coach David Smashey said. “She wasn’t playing great but just willed her way through her singles match, which won it for us.”

The Lady Tigers will play Nixa, the district’s top seed, for a championship at Cooper Tennis Complex beginning at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
