For the third time in three tries, Izzy Benson is headed to the state golf tournament. Benson shot her best score in a district tournament yet, finishing with an 86 at Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield on October 5. Play was delayed until afternoon because of rain, leaving the course soaked, but playable. Benson’s score placed her 13th and earned all-district recognition.
As a freshman in 2021, Benson shot a 91 on a cold, rainy day at the same course in Springfield. Last season, she shot an 89 at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin to place 11th as a sophomore.
Benson will be close to home for the state tournament October 16 and 17. The Class 4 tournament will be held at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar.
