Off the Field: Band Takes 6th with “Fun, Bold” Show

The Republic Tiger Pride Band is in the midst of its competition season, and it’s coming off a strong performance at the Ozark Marching Contest. The band secured a 6th place finish out of 14 bands in both preliminary and finals competition.

The band’s show is titled Arkham, and it’s based on the Arkham Asylum characters from the Batman universe. Band director Ryan Henigman calls the show “fun, bold, and very visual.” This year’s musical selection ranges from Twenty One Pilots’ “Heathens,” Brittany Spears’ “Toxic,” CeeLo Green’s “Crazy,” to Bernard Hermann’s “Psycho Suite,” from the motion picture Psycho.

“I am so proud of all the hard work the band has put forth this year,” said Henigman. “The hard work is paying off.”

Henigman notes the band’s progress from a year ago, his first year at Republic, emphasizing that they are “stretching ourselves miles past where we were last year,” and he commends the students for “stepping it up” to a new level this competition season.

The Republic Tiger Pride Band has three more contests lined up this season. “We are looking forward to showing everyone the end of our show soon,” he added.
