Izzy as Pie; Junior Benson Earns Third State Trip

Three seasons. Three trips to the state tournament for Republic golfer Izzy Benson.

Benson shot an 86 during a long, waterlogged day of golf at the Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, finishing 13th to earn all-district honors and qualify for the upcoming Class 4 state tournament.

Republic finished 11th out of 15 teams.

Freshman Jenna Smith was the second-best finisher for Republic. She was in contention for a state bid until a rough three-hole stretch set her back in the rankings. She finished tied for 25th with a 96.

Stephanie David shot a 106, tying for 42nd. Apryllmari Clark finished with a 139.

Rain all morning forced a long delay, and play didn’t begin until about 12:30 p.m. Benson fought through the wet conditions to earn a spot at the Class 4 state tournament at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar. That tournament will be held October 16 and 17.
