Izzy Benson overcame a slow start to settle in during the second half of the day at the Class 4 state golf tournament in Bolivar. Benson, who teed off from the 10th hole, struggled to a 53 on the back nine to start the day, including a 10-stroke 12th hole.
Benson turned things around during the afternoon, shooting a 44 to finish the round with a 97. Her final nine holes included four pars and a birdie.
Benson and the rest of the field will continue the tournament Tuesday at Silo Ridge Country Club.
