Webb City Takes Control in Third Inning to Defeat Republic

Webb City rallied for six runs in the third inning, five of them after a two-out error, and coasted to a 12-3 win over Republic on Thursday. The Lady Tigers had built a 3-0 lead before Webb City’s offensive explosion.

After taking a 6-3 lead through three innings, the Lady Cardinals tacked on two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three more in the sixth. Webb City out-hit Republic 10-7 and also took advantage of five Republic errors.

Republic took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, when Addison Walker singled and scored on a double by Lilli Richerson. Republic scored two more in the top of the third on a two-run homer by Paige Elsenraat. It was Elsenraat’s team-leading third home run of the year.

Elsenraat, Walker, and Richerson each had two base hits to lead Republic. Kara Goeke took the loss, giving up 12 runs — only five of them earned — in six innings. She walked five and struck out one, allowing 10 base hits.

Republic falls to 11-10 as it heads into a non-conference game at Kickapoo on Friday.
