Richerson’s Slam Sparks Republic; Softball Bats Awaken to Open Tourney

About 14 hours after being shut out on two hits at Neosho, Republic’s bats woke up in a big way Friday morning to open the Ozarks Fall Festival Tournament. Republic walloped Locust Grove 16-0 in a four-inning shortened game.

Lilli Richerson set the tone in the first inning with a grand slam. The Lady Tigers led 6-0 after the first inning, added two runs in the second, five more in the third, and three runs in the fourth inning to close out the game. The contest ended on a Jenna Belcher home run that made the score 16-0.

Republic tallied 15 base hits, including three by Gracie Woods, who also drove in two runs and scored twice. Richerson and Sammi Watson had two hits apiece. Belcher had three RBIs and scored three runs. She also stole two bases.

Piper Dishman earned the win in the circle, working four innings and allowing two hits. She struck out seven and walked two.
