Lady Tigers Tennis Team Picks Up Key Late-Season Win

Republic tennis stepped out of conference play Monday for a road win at Bolivar that could play a role in upcoming district seedings. The Lady Tigers won two of three doubles matches and three of six singles matches to clinch the win, 5-4.

Although Bolivar is not in Republic’s district, the Liberators defeated Lebanon, a district opponent of the Lady Tigers, 5-4 earlier this year. Bolivar also beat another district opponent, Ozark, 5-0.

In doubles, Lilly Carlo and Elli Woodward teamed for an 8-6 win, and Ella Lashley and Katie Teeter also won, 8-4. Republic’s other pair, Mari Davidson and Monica Henry, lost a tight match in a tiebreaker, 8-9 (4-7).

Singles winners were Lilly Carlo, Mati Carpenter, and Katie Teeter.

“Most of the matches were very close and could have gone either way,” said coach David Smashey. “Mati Carpenter had a very convincing and crucial win at 3 singles. Elli Woodward played a great match against a really good player at 4 singles and just needed a couple more points at the right time and she would have won.”

The JV teams tied 10-10.
