Fast Start, Fast Finish; Republic Sweeps Central

Republic sprinted to a big lead and never let up in a quick win over Springfield Central at home Monday, 25-5, 25-11, 25-11.

The Lady Tigers had jumped all over Heritage, Arkansas, at the beginning of their match Saturday, but didn’t finish as strong as Davis had hoped. Monday was a different story.

“I’m proud of them because they started strong and they ended strong,” said Davis.

After Central scored the first point of the night with a service ace, Republic evened the score with a side out, then turned the ball over to Brooklyn Claxton to serve. Claxton helped Republic reel off six straight points to take a 7-1 lead, and the Lady Tigers never looked back.

Claxton finished the night with five service aces, one behind team leader Reese Frey, who had six. Claxton also had 17 assists, while Frey had 10.

Rilynn Finley led the team with 14 kills, and Alaina Norman added nine. Addison Fanning had five kills. Norman led the team in digs with four.

The win was the fourth straight for Republic, which improved its record to 10-3. The Lady Tigers travel to Ozark for a Central Ozark Conference battle Thursday.
