After a mid-season reset to her swing, Junior Izzy Benson shot an 87 to finish 13th at the Willard Ladies Invitational Monday. After two disappointing finishes in a row, Benson made changes to her swing over the weekend. She said the performances took a toll on her confidence.
“Our first tournament at Marshfield, I played really well, and I think that was because of my confidence. I was hitting the ball really well,” she said. But her last two performances left her looking for improvement.
“Today, I wanted to brush that off and regain some of my confidence. I felt like I needed to reboot before it got way out of hand,” she said.
Heading into Monday’s round at Willard, Benson didn’t expect to play her best golf — but she hoped to see improvement with her new swing throughout the day, and she thinks she accomplished that.
“We don’t have another tournament until next week, so I have about a week to make sure my new swing is put in place and it’s here to stay,” Benson said. Hopefully, by next week it will be muscle memory.”
