For the second match in a row, Republic fell behind 3-0 at halftime before rallying and falling short. Tuesday, it was a Central Ozark Conference match against Carthage, which finished on top 3-1.
The Carthage Tigers dominated possession early, controlling the game thoroughly until Republic got off its first dangerous shot attempt about 15 minutes in. But Carthage immediately countered with a goal by Welle Welle with 24:03 left in the half to go up 1-0. Welle scored again a minute later to make it 2-0.
Aldo Sanchez Cancinos extended the Carthage lead to 3-0 with 12:35 remaining in the half off a corner kick. Carthage took the 3-0 lead into halftime.
Republic got on the board two minutes into the second half when Santino Stiglianese scored off an assist from Kleber Perez. Republic showed a spark after that initial goal, but was unable to capitalize the rest of the way.
Republic falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the COC. Carthage is 1-0 (1-0).
