The Republic Lady Tigers tennis team opened its home schedule with a narrow 5-4 victory over the Willard Lady Tigers on Tuesday.
Mari Davidson, Elli Woodward and Katie Teeter won key singles matches to lift Republic past Willard.
The Lady Tigers doubles teams also contributed, taking two of the three matches. The No. 2 team of Davidson and Teeter won 8-6, while the No. 3 duo of Mati Carpenter and Monica Henry earned an 8-3 victory.
“We’re scuffling a bit right now and have some things to work through,” said coach David Smashey. “Mari, Elli and Katie all won big singles matches to get the win.”
The Lady Tigers are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Central Ozark Conference.
The Republic junior varsity squad continued its strong start to the season with a 15-6 win.
