Republic placed two players on the Class 6 all-state baseball team as selected by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. Gavyn Beckner — who pitched and played third base — was named to the first team as a utility player. Wyatt Woods earned a spot on the second team as a catcher.
Beckner had already been recognized as one of the best all-around players in southwest Missouri, and now he has added all-state honors. Beckner hit .367 and reached base at a .424 clip. He drove in 39 runs to lead Republic, and he scored 23 times. He also stole nine bases. As a pitcher, he compiled a 1.85 earned run average, striking out 56 and walking 17 while pitching in many of the biggest games of the season. His won-loss record was 7-1.
Woods spent almost as much time on base as he did behind the plate. He led the Tigers with a .509 on-base percentage. He hit .342 and drew 23 walks during his junior season, in addition to calling pitches for the Tiger pitching staff.
