Cason Bekemeier is headed to his first state golf tournament. The sophomore shot a 74 to qualify for the Class 5 state tournament on May 15-16. He was the only Republic golfer to make the cut. (See photo gallery below.)
Bekemeier’s 74 was good enough for a tie for 9th place overall in a field of 73 golfers. That earned him all-district recognition, as well.
Among Republic’s other team members, Brayden Tharp had the lowest score with an 86. Jace Henry shot an 88. Bryce Ondrick finished at 93, and Luke Heavin at 98. Republic finished 11th as a team.
Gaige Lewis of Kickapoo won the individual district championship with a 67, winning by three strokes over Davis Linhardt of Helias. Helias won the team championship and Nixa was second.
