Since 1981, Sherrie Dunn has held the Republic track and field record in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:14. But not anymore.
Sophomore Gracie Troester broke the 41-year-old mark — the longest-standing track record on the books in Republic — with a time of 5:13.41. She finished 22 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, and she staked her claim as the fastest female distance runner in Republic history.
Troester now holds school records in the 1600m, the 3200m, and the cross country 5000m. She broke all three during this school year. (She also teamed with Miha Nambara, Misora Nambara, and Kristin Probst to set the 4x800m relay record last year.)
Troester’s record was the highlight of a big day for Republic track and field. The girls team finished first and the boys team finished second.
