Landon Carter hit the first batter of the game, but that was definitely not a sign of things to come in his start against Lebanon. Carter got out of that first-inning jam, then cruised most of the night in a six-inning shutout.
Carter allowed only five baserunners — the hit batsman in the first inning, a leadoff walk in the third inning, a two-out double in the fourth, another hit batsman in the fifth, and a leadoff single in the sixth. Lebanon managed to get a runner in scoring position just three times, and only one runner made it as far as third base all night.
Carter struck out three batters. He needed only 80 pitches to get through six innings, and 49 of them were strikes.
The outing dropped Carter’s earned run average for the season from 5.11 to 3.44, and it was our performance of the week.
