Connor Sandridge came away with a second consecutive state medal during his weekend at the state wrestling tournament in Columbia, finishing 4th in Class 4 at 175 pounds..
Sandridge opened his tournament with a win over Ethan Wasson of Timberland by a 3-1 decision. In his quarterfinal match, he defeated Nathan Sola of Liberty North by an 8-2 decision. He lost his semifinal to Brett Smith of Troy — the eventual state champion — but rebounded with a gutsy win over Cole Harrell of Hickman, pinning Harrell after falling behind 7-2.
Wrestling for third place, Sandridge nearly scored a match-tying point as time ran out, losing a 3-2 decision to Chance Cole of Fort Zumwalt North.
“I had a really good season. It wasn’t as good as it could have been, but it was good enough to make me feel like I accomplished something this season,” he said. “Battling through several different injuries, it puts a different perspective on things.”
Sandridge finished his senior season with a record of 31-5.
