Baseball Game Suspended by Lightning in 5th

Liberty North had a 4-0 lead over Republic in the bottom of the 5th inning when a lightning flash sent teams scurrying to the dugout and incoming rain forced the game to be suspended.

The Eagles had scored all four of their runs in the top of the third inning, stringing together a walk and four consecutive hits against Republic starter Landon Carter. Carter recovered to get out of the inning, then worked out of trouble in the fourth inning and added a scoreless fifth to keep the score 4-0.

The Tigers put two runners on base in each of the first two innings and put the leadoff man in the third inning, but failed to score each time. In the bottom of the fifth, Devon Hughes singled to lead off and was standing on first base when lightning forced the suspension.

The teams will try to finish the game Friday — but that will depend on having a field available. Republic has games already scheduled on the turf at Parkview as part of the Red & Blue Tournament.
