By the Numbers – November 8, 2022

30

The point swing between Republic’s first and second meeting with Webb City this season. The first time the teams met, Republic lost by 21 (35-14). The second time, Republic won by nine (30-21). For the curious, Carthage won by exactly 30 points (56-26) against Republic in Week 1.

23

The number of consecutive points scored by Republic in the final 14 minutes of their district semifinal. The Tigers trailed 21-7 before reeling off three touchdowns and a safety during a stretch of  seven minutes and 22 seconds. During that time, Webb City ran only one offensive play, and that resulted in a safety.

5

The current winning streak of the football Tigers, who have not lost since September 30 at Joplin. The last time Republic won as many games in a row was 1995, when the Tigers won seven straight. During that seven-game win streak, Republic beat three state-ranked teams, including the No. 1 team on two consecutive weeks, first Ozark for a district title, then Rolla in the sectionals. Republic lost the following week to eventual state champion Camdenton, a team the Tigers had beaten earlier in the year.

990

The number of yards by Connor Sandridge so far this season. With ten rushing yards against Carthage Friday night, Sandridge would become the third back in the past 15 seasons to hit the 1,000-yard mark in a season. The others are Avery Moody (1,009 last year) and Jerney Jones (1,817 in 2015).

17*

The number of years since Republic has won a district championship. The 2004 team went 7-4, sweeping its district opponents before losing to undefeated Camdenton on a last-minute field goal in the state sectionals.

* Corrects an earlier note that 1995 was the last district title. That was 2005, when the Tigers went 5-6 but won a district.
